M. K. Kumaran

M.K.Kumaran (1915–1994) was a famous writer, journalist and politician of Kerala, India. He was born on May 30 , 1915 in Melkulangara in Kottarakkara in Kollam district to K.Kannan Vaidyan and Ummini Amma. During his student days he joined freedom struggle and became a member of Travancore State Congress.After taking a degree in law he practiced as advocate for some time and later joined Kerala Kaumudi Daily as journalist. He came into close contact with some of the senior Communist leaders like M.N.Govindan Nair and joined the Communist Party .Having involved in trade union activities he became the office bearer of several trade unions and contested the Loksabhaelections from Chirayinkeezhu in Trivandrum twice. He was elected both time and held the office of Member of Parliament for two terms( from1957 to 1967). After this tenure as M.P,he became the chief editor of Kerala Kaumudi. In 1971 he was appointed as a member of Kerala Public Service Commission and later became its chairman. He has written several articles on progressive literature and politics and translated many works mainly Russian, into Malayalam. His wife is C.N.Subhadra. Former diplomt and noted analyst of international politics M.K.Bhadrakumar is his eldest son. He died in 1994.[1][2]
